The Perils of WordPress
Sometimes it’s the little things that get you, today – while I was updating the site (because I like to tinker), I did something – and BOOM – my WordPress site went down.
Nothing I did would make it come back up. Luckily, I had a backup from this morning (how lucky was that) – so I do a restore of and NOTHING. Really, it still didn’t work. Something was really messed up, and I had no idea where the problem was. After twisting this knob, flipping that switch, adding this, deleting that – I finally decided it was time to just re-install.
Basically, it’s the perils of owning a site and doing business on the internet (or via software) – sometimes it just craters and the only thing you can do is burn it down and build it back up. After a few hours of troubleshooting and then re-installing – We’re backup and running. I lost a few pages, a dozen or so blog posts – but operating and working is better than not.
Follow my advice … keep a real backup of your site and test the reliability of your restore capability. Your backup is only as good as the ability to actually use it!
